After months of murder, mystery and madness – the first season of Riverdale is drawing to a close.
Yes. That’s right. It’s almost time to temporarily say goodbye to our favourite high school drama.
However, that doesn’t mean that we have to temporarily say goodbye to its stars.
Ever since Riverdale first aired back in January, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, KJ Apa, Madeline Petsch and more have been active on social media – interacting with fans, creating memes of their characters, teasing new episodes and more. On top of that though, they’ve shown us that behind the scenes, the Riverdale cast are just as close as they are on screen. Or in the case of our favourite villain, Cheryl Blossom – actually close. Madeline is friends with her costars.
So, with that in mind, here are 10 times that the Riverdale cast gave us friendship goals off screen.
Sometimes friendship is best expressed in a simple photograph. Extra props can be given if that photograph comes of courtesy of Marie Claire. Here the three female leads of Riverdale smoulder in perfect harmony. They also give us cause to petition for a Charlie’s Angels remake. Seriously.

Few things imply modern day friendship more than a loving retweet. Camila just wants to be known for who she is and Cole’s support in these circumstances suggests that he is the type of close friend who knows what Camila did last summer. It also suggests that he is a fan of a perfect tweet. ‘Camilla Cabello x Shawn Mendes’ move over. We ship ‘Camila Mendes x Cole Sprouse’ now too.
In a sea of endless ‘who did this?’ tweets, social media often lays claim to people taking credit for other people’s ideas and humour. True friends, however, acknowledge when someone has said or done something before them. Here Camila makes sure to let us know that KJ made public his love of food first. We’d like to take this opportunity to say that we, like KJ and Camila, also love food.
Nothing screams friendship more than being able to make fun of each other. This brilliant gif of Casey doing his best Cole impression is the content that we live for. It is also the kind of joke that true pals exchange on the daily. More impressions of Cole circa Drake and Josh please – Casey.
It’s only natural for friends to have different eating habits. It takes a true friend to change theirs for a friend – even if its only for a meal or two. We love that Madeline tries to take Lili to Veggie Grill but we love even more that the two of them are happy to turn the situation into a hilarious meme.
Fans are still speculating as to whether these two are dating on the dl but, regardless, it’s clear that they are friends. Who else but a best mate would make your floral fantasy photoshoot a reality?
It’s easy to assume that Madeline, like Cheryl, doesn’t get along with her cast-mates but that’s not at all true. Speaking to Teen Vogue she said: ‘It’s always a dream to play the villain, but it’s also so hard because [the cast] are also my best friends, right?. I have to be mean to them on-screen and, afterwards, I’m always hugging them. ‘I didn’t mean it!’ But she’s awful and I love it.’ What a cutie.
Yes. Regardless of occasional inter-band drama on screen Josie and the Pussycats are not just friends on tv but they are also genuine friends. We’re jealous of them and their girl group goals too.
You know what they say: friends that polaroid together, stay together – or something like that right?
And if these things weren’t enough, Ashleigh, Camila, KJ, Cole, Madeline and Lili went to Mexico for a little vacation together. Oh and Camila, KJ, Cole, Lili and Casey went to Coachella with each other too because they’re as close irl as they seem on social media. Anyone else feeling fomo?
