9 Signs That You're A Way Too Pushy Friend

1. Your friends are too scared to tell you they messed up

You know when you feel hurt because you hear from someone else that your bestie got with that guy/girl again and she hasn’t told you about it? Yeah, maybe there’s a reason for that.

If you’re too pushy with your opinions then they probs don’t want the drama of telling you.

2. You get super angry when they don’t take your advice…

Listen, we get it – it’s so annoying when someone asks for advice then does the opposite. But everyone is different and everyone makes mistakes.

Maybe your advice wasn’t for them or maybe they meant to take it but shiz happened. You’ve got to accept people for who they are.

Being a good friend involves walking some pretty fine lines including the tricky tightrope of honest-but-not-too-honest and the knife edge of giving them advice while not actually shoving it down their throat. But one of the worst to navigate is the precipice of the pushy friend.

We all want to guide our friends so they don’t make mistake but if you push them to do something they don’t wanna then chances are they’ll end up pushing you away. So take a look at your friendships and see if any of these signs apply to you.

3. …And then you don’t feel much sympathy when things go wrong

People mess up. That’s life. And if your friend is upset and needs your sympathy then you should be good enough to give it. Even if you warned them that this would happen.

4. Your friends complain you’re too blunt

We totally agree that being honest is key in a friendship and if you’re always a ‘yes’ friend that isn’t necessarily going to help your BFF.

But if you’re being told that you’re being too blunt then go buy some tact, babes. You can still be kind while being honest.

5. You bring up past arguments to make your point

Your mates don’t need to be reminded of all the times you were right or the times they effed up. So keep it to yourself.

6. You tell other friends about their situation

Do you find yourself b*tching about your friend’s situation with their ex/flat/job to other people because you’re ‘concerned’. Well, don’t.

Do you think they wan’t you telling Susan at work? Nah.

7. You secretly feel superior to them

We’ve all felt smug from time to time but if you’re getting consistent pleasure from telling your friends ‘I told you so’ then you‘re not okay hun. Get down off that high horse.

8. You find yourself being pessimistic

If your mate has a new guy or girl on the scene but a history of total duds then be happy for them regardless.

Telling them all the things that might go wrong is like telling someone their parachute might not open before jumping out a plane. Not helpful.

9. You can’t let things go

If someone makes a choice you don’t agree with then accept it and move on. If you REALLY feel the need to tell them you think it’s a mistake then tell them once and once only. Any more than that and you’ll end up annoying them and pushing them further into their (admittedly bad) choice.

And now, are you having a crappy day? These animals will solve all your woes…
