Flushed with the success of Wonder Woman, DC and Warner are about to launch another female-led superhero franchise, with the studios confirming that a Supergirl movie is officially on the way. However, star of the TV show, Melissa Benoist will apparently not be taking the starring role…
A Supergirl movie is on the way / Warner Bros. Television
Benoist plays Supergirl on the small-screen show of the same name, but the movie will reportedly cast a different actress altogether. That being said, the project is thought to be aiming for a similar tone to the positive and peppy TV series, so the two won’t be completely unrelated.
No word as yet regarding Henry Cavill‘s potential involvement, although we’d imagine the studio would want to give Supergirl the full spotlight, rather than leaning too heavily on her famous cousin. Maybe a cameo then, although Cavill’s ongoing future in the DCEU still remains up in the air at this point.
No release date has been confirmed as yet, but with Wonder Woman 1984 and the Birds Of Prey team-up movie also on the horizon, it looks as though Warner and DC are doubling down on female superheroes. Long may it continue!
