We were lucky enough to catch up with the rising star this week.

Check it out below…

1) For those who don’t know about you and your music, tell us a little bit about who you are and where you’re from…

Heya, I’m Au/Ra, I make alt-pop music and I’m from a tiny island in the Caribbean called Antigua.

2) Describe your sound in three words…

Metaphoric, thought-provoking and honest.

3) Who inspired you to start a career in music?

My parents are both musicians and they were definitely the first people to inspire me to start a career in music. Although funny enough my dad didn’t want me to at first knowing how difficult it is. I was too stubborn though and now he’s super supportive haha.

This week’s featured artist is an incredible musician from Antigua.

Au/Ra‘s career has gotten off to an incredible start. Not only has she already released multiple critically acclaimed singles but she’s also been quickly building a gathering of loyal fans. Her latest single ‘Panic Room’ has been streamed millions of times.

4) Who is your biggest musical influence?

I don’t really have a specific person who’s influenced my music directly. In general, I get influenced by all kinds of music, sounds and lyrics. Specifically lyrics. Although one person who I’ve always looked up to and stan would be Lana Del Rey.

5) Tell us about the writing and recording process for your new music…

I love writing music about subjects that aren’t usually talked about in songs, and if they are, in a way that they aren’t usually. Most times I start with a subject, or song title, and develop a storyline around it. With ‘Panic Room’ for example, I knew I wanted to use the word panic room as a metaphor for anxiety. It’s something a lot of people (including me) have experienced at some point in their lives and it needs to be talked about more – so I’m glad I got to.

6) What can we expect from your live shows?

Me being a dork. Also I move a lot. I absolutely love performing so I really get into it.

7) What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

That would definitely be when I performed in a 2,000 people capacity venue for the first time on an opening act tour with Lewis Capaldi. I was extremely nervous at first but at the end of the night I was in love with the crowd. Having so many people vibing out to your music is the best feeling.

8) Have you met anyone and been totally starstruck?

Not really. The closest I came to that was when I was at Sony Studios and I ran into Adam Sandler, who literally just passed me on the sidewalk and said: “Nice hair, kiddo” (it was pink at the time). Before I could realize it was him, he was gone.

9) What’s on your playlists that people wouldn’t expect?

‘Confident’ by Justin Bieber. That song was and still is my jam.

10) When can we see you live?

I’ll be doing a few festivals this year and I’m the opening act for a to be announced tour that I’m super excited about.
