Get To Know: Sasha Keable

Since then though, the British singer-songwriter has stepped back from the limelight to nurture her sound. She’s emerged four years later no doubt with the same talent that gave her breakout success, but with a refined musical direction of her very own – as she shows on her brand-new single.

Coming off of this, her next project is in the works and is due later this year – but in the meantime check out her new single ‘That’s the S**t’ and then Get To Know her in our latest introducing interview below…

1) For those who don’t know about you and your music, tell us a little bit about who you are and where you’re from…

My names Sasha Keable, I’m a singer/songwriter from South London

2) Describe your sound in three words…

Emotional, Bitter, Love

3) Who inspired you to start a career in music?

I’m not sure, I wouldn’t say there was one person specifically but my dad helped me realise my talent. After that I would say I was more inspired by writing and where it could take me, once I found my groove I knew I could make a career out of it and I think that inspired me and keeps inspiring me today.

4) Who are your biggest musical influences?

Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Little Dragon, Robert Glasper, D’Angelo, Minnie Riperton, Marvin Gaye to name just a few

5) Tell us about the writing and recording process for your new single ‘That’s the S**t’?

I wrote everything at my house, on my piano in my kitchen. I had to go back to basics and write somewhere I felt completely free. We would just voice note it at the end of the day on my phone and then after a few months I got my band together and we built the songs together from there. I think it says a lot about the songs because they can stand alone with every bit of feeling and emotion with or without production around them.

6) What can we expect from your live shows?

You can expect some honest emotion and probably a lot of embarrassing small talk in-between.

7) What has been your biggest career highlight so far?

Honestly, getting myself to this point where I’m completely in control, I really didn’t think I would get here so I’m proud of myself for that.

8) Have you met anyone and been totally starstruck?

Robert Glasper, I met him after one of his shows in London and we chatted for a bit, I don’t really remember what I said I think I was just ranting to him about his music. It was probably really embarrassing to watch.

9) What’s on your iPod/playlists that people wouldn’t expect?

I listen to sooo many ‘sleep’ playlists and a lot of Native American pipe music and a lot of classical music, as soon as it gets dark you would confuse my room for a spa.

10) When can we see you live?

Very soon!
