Hozier described hearing O’Riordan’s voice as “unforgettable”, commenting that “it threw into question what a voice could sound like in that context of Rock. I’d never heard somebody use their instrument in that way.”

Meanwhile, Duran Duran said they were “crushed to hear the news about the passing of Dolores”, sending their condolences to the star’s family.

Rock icon Dolores O’Riordan has died at the age of 46.

Tributes are pouring in for the legendary rock star who was the lead singer of Irish band The Cranberries, one of the biggest rock bands of the 1990s.

Thanks to her rebellious style, dinstictive voice and powerful songwriting, Dolores helped to define an era with songs like ‘Dreams’, ‘Linger’ and, of course, ‘Zombie’.

Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence caused such silence
Who are we mistaken

But you see it’s not me
It’s not my family
In your head, in your head
They are fighting
With their tanks and their bombs
And their bombs and their guns
In your head, in your head they are crying

In your head
In your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-e-e-e
What’s in your head?
In your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-e-e-e oh

Another mother’s breaking heart is taking over
When the violence causes silence
We must be mistaken

It’s the same old theme since 1916
In your head, in your head
They’re still fighting
With their tanks and their bombs
And their bombs and their guns
In your head, in your head they are dying

In your head
In your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-e-e-e
What’s in your head?
In your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-e-e-e
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
E-e-e-e-a…

The Cranberries announced the tragic news in a statement last night, saying “The world has lost a true artist today.”

“We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores. She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started the Cranberries.”

Dolores had reportedly arrived in London for a recording session with the rest of the band, who were scheduled to re-record ‘Zombie’ with Bad Wolves.

The American band revealed the news of her passing came “mere hours before she was to record vocals on our upcoming version of ‘Zombie’.”

My first time hearing Dolores O’Riordan’s voice was unforgettable. It threw into question what a voice could sound like in that context of Rock. I’d never heard somebody use their instrument in that way. Shocked and saddened to hear of her passing, thoughts are with her family.

Absolutely shocked to hear about the passing of Dolores O’Riordan! @The_Cranberries gave us our first big support when we toured with them around France years ago! Thoughts are with her family and friends

I once met Delores O’Riordan when I was 15. She was kind and lovely, I got her autograph on my train ticket and it made my day. She had the most amazing voice and presence. So sorry to hear that she’s passed away today x

Oh my life is changing everyday
In every possible way
And oh my dreams
It’s never quite as it seems
Never quite as it seems

I know I felt like this before
But now I’m feeling it even more
Because it came from you
Then I open up and see
The person falling here is me
A different way to be

I want more, impossible to ignored
Impossible to ignore
And they’ll come true
Impossible not to do
Impossible not to do

And now I tell you openly
You have my heart so don’t hurt me
You’re what I couldn’t find
A totally amazing mind
So understanding and so kind
You’re everything to me

Oh my life is changing everyday
In every possible way
And oh my dreams
It’s never quite as it seems
‘Cause you’re a dream to me
Dream to me
