The 1975 Played The Barfly Last Night To A Small Group Of Fans And It Was Everything

Walking on stage looking dapper in their suits (and Matty donning a pair of shades for ‘ego and stylistic reasons’), the boys kicked off the gig with the first single of their new album ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’, called ‘Give Yourself a Try’.

For the first time since the 6th of December all the way back in 2012, The 1975 returned to the Barfly in Camden (now known as the Camden Assembly) to perform an intimate gig hosted by Spotify to 200 of their biggest fans, users who listen to them the MOST on Spotify (we’re talking like, 24/7).

Using songs from the original setlist used on that very special night again once again, fans were singing their hearts out to the songs that boosted the band’s career and put them on the map from ‘Robbers’ to ‘Chocolate’. Yep, we’re crying.

You learn a couple things when you get to my age
Like friends don’t lie and it all tastes the same in the dark
When your vinyl and your coffee collection is a sign of the times
You’re getting spiritually enlightened at 29

So just give yourself a try
Won’t you give yourself a try?
Won’t you give yourself a try?
Won’t you give–?

I found a grey hair in one of my zoots
Like context in a modern debate, I just took it out
The only apparatus required for happiness is your pain and fucking going outside
And getting STDs at 27 really isn’t the vibe

Jane took her own life at 16
She was a kid who had the box tattooed on her arm
And I was 25 and afraid to go outside
A millennial that baby-boomers like

Won’t you give yourself a try?
Won’t you give yourself a try?
Won’t you give yourself a try?
Won’t you give–?

And what would you say to your younger self?
Growing a beard’s quite hard and whiskey never starts to taste nice
And you’ll make a lot of money, and it’s funny
‘Cause you’ll move somewhere sunny and get addicted to drugs
And spend obscene amounts on fucking seeds and beans online

So just give yourself a try
Won’t you give yourself a try?
Won’t you give yourself a try?
Won’t you give–?

Matty could punch us in the face and we would thank him.

The shades really make this look if you ask us.

We would do ANYTHING to be front row and hold Matty’s hand.

Playing ‘Medicine’ for the first time since revealing the true meaning behind it on Twitter recently, we can’t help but feel jealous of the crowd for getting to be part of this very intimate moment.

I think I have to come clean and admit this was never a metaphor. It’s not about a girl. You know what it’s about. And I’ve always felt weird about it. And I’m kind of sorry https://t.co/FQj88Z60nq via @YouTube

I just think it’s important to recognise ‘Medicine’ considering ‘It’s Not Living’ and the two perspectives. It’s a journey; and it happens. And you’re wrong and you’re right at the same time. I love you guys you make my life worth living

Fans of the band clearly had the best night ever…

The ‘What a shame’ guitar, we’re fine honestly…

Can you imagine being this close to Matty? We’re soft.

And of course they went HAM on the decor, when are they not doing the absolute MOST?

You can find us sobbing in the corner and rocking back and forth until their 2019 tour.
